| Abstract: | This is an interdisciplinary colloquium aimed at non-experts in order to explain basic ideas of AdS/CFT correspondence in string theory. The AdS/CFT correspondence has been one of the most important discoveries in string theory for about 15 years and has provided extremely active research areas. For example, it offers a totally new method to analyze strongly interacting systems. The main part of this talk will be devoted to the basic explanation such as `what is the AdS (anti-de Sitter space) ?', 'what is the CFT (conformal field theory)?' and `what is the holographic principle ?'. |
