Abstract: |
Hydrogen-poor core-collapse supernovae (type-IIb/Ib/Ic) are thought to be the explosions of stripped-envelope massive progenitors similar to Wolf-Rayet stars. However, it is also possible for interacting massive binaries to produce hydrogen-poor stars at the end of the evolution. Hence, the progenitors of type IIb/Ib/Ic supernovae seem to consist of both single and massive binary stars. Direct detection of the progenitor stars in pre-supernova images thus far has not been able to conclusively recover type-Ib/c progenitors. However, indirect methods such as environment studies can provide important clues such as the age and metallicity of the progenitor. In this talk I will describe new developments and the current understanding of the progenitor stars of this type of supernova derived from various methods, as well as ongoing efforts in the field of supernova environment study. |
