Can an arrow of time develop in a system with time-reversal invariant laws, and no special initial conditions? Can fine-tuning be explained in the context of Hamiltonian evolution, even though Liouville's theorem implies that phase space volumes are preserved? I will argue that if there is an infinite available phase space for the system being described, the answer to both these question is unambiguously yes. I will also argue that there are serious problems that arise in any description of cosmology for which the available phase space is not infinite. |
