Abstract: |
Classic stellar evolution calculations have been very successful in explaining a wide range of observations of stars. Yet, one of the major shortcomings of the spherically symmetric, hydrostatic models is their parametrized approach to dynamic and intrinsically multidimensional phenomena, like convection or rotation. Three-dimensional hydrodynamics simulations are a possibility to improve on this. I will talk about important techniques in stellar hydrodynamics, with an emphasis on turbulence at low Mach numbers. I will illustrate this with two examples, a study of dynamical shear in rotating massive stars and convective boundary mixing at the core of a Population III star. |
