| Abstract: | The focus of this talk will be on our work published as "A Charged Membrane Paradigm at Large D" (ArXiv: 1511.03432) and our current work as its follow-up. I will talk about how the procedure of solving Einstein-Maxwell equations in large $D$ perturbatively in $1/D$ can be seen as a dynamical problem for a 'membrane' in flat $D$ dimensional spacetime, and although the procedure assumes the presence of a large isometry, the final metric, gauge field and equations of motion for the membrane don't make reference to that isometry and therefore are more general. Finally I will also talk about our ongoing work on the thermodynamics of this membrane system and the stationary solutions of the 'membrane equations of motion'. |
