The discovery of the Higgs boson completed the Standard Model, but there are many reasons to expect physics beyond the Standard Model, including the instability of the Standard Model vacuum, the nature of dark matter and the hierarchy of mass scales. Many of these issues are addressed by supersymmetry, and experiments at the LHC are searching for evidence for supersymmetry or other new physics in Run 2 at high energies. Preliminary hints have been reported that there may be a new particle weighing about 750 GeV, whose possible interpretations will be discussed. |
