Abstract: |
Hydrogen deficient supernovae includes thermonuclear (Type Ia) and core-collapse (Type Ib and Ic) supernovae. A majority of Type Ia supernovae known as "normal" Type Ia supernovae, form a remarkably homogeneous class with similar light curve shape and spectral evolution. With the availability of good quality data of Type Ia supernovae in the recent years, deviation from the observed homogeneity, and the occurrence of peculiar and exceptional events is quite evident. On the other hand core-collapse supernovae, specially Type Ic supernovae show diverse properties. Thy exhibit diversity in terms of the explosion energy, ejecta mass and mass of Ni produced in the explosion. They are found with normal luminosity, normal ejecta velocity, to luminous, highly energetic GRB associated broad-lined type Ic supernovae. The broad-line SNe that are not associated with GRBs are usually found to have smaller values of ejecta mass, explosion energy and lower luminosity as compared to the GRB-associated supernovae. In this talk I will present some results based on our observations of broad-lined Type Ic supernova SN 2014ad, the peculiar Type Ia supernova SN 2012dn, and extremely slowly declining Type Ia supernova SN 2011aa. |
