Abstract: The AdS/CFT correspondence states the equivalence of two completely different theories - the supersymmetric N=4 gauge theory and superstrings in a ten-dimensional AdS_5xS5 spacetime. The correspondence is very interesting since the difficult large coupling regime of gauge theory is mapped to `easy' problems on the string side. This same feature makes it very difficult to test or prove.
In this talk I would like to describe recent work which allows to analyze strings also in the regime corresponding to the weak coupling
regime of gauge theory and thus to perform a nontrivial quantitative test of the correspondence.
I will mention also recent work leading towards the exact solution of (the spectrum of) string theory in AdS_5xS5.
