Searching for time-domain signals in imaging data has important applications to variable stars, gravitational lensing, supernovae, and solar system objects. I'll introduce the generally used `optimal' algorithm, discuss the failure modes that usually plague difference imaging campaigns, and introduce a new algorithm that deals with noise in the template image. If time permits, I'll mention some known problems in the HSC pipeline (with proposed work-arounds), and entertain questions on anything related to HSC data analysis. |
