Abstract: |
The origin of the masses of the known particles is still an open problem. The Higgs mechanism in the Standard Model of particle Physics describes how the Higgs field induces masses to gauge bosons and fermions, but there is still no explanation for the electroweak symmetry breaking mechanism and moreover neutrinos remain massless. Furthermore, no pattern has been identified to explain fermion mixings. Proposals to shed light on these unknowns naturally lead to Beyond the Standard Model frameworks, and in this talk I will discuss some recent achievements in both the electroweak and flavour sectors related to the origin of masses and mixings. |
