Abstract: |
I am going to discuss two new technique of tracing magnetic field that make use of the advancements of the MHD turbulence theory. This theory predicts that the magnetic eddies are elongated and well aligned with the local direction of magnetic field. This entails that the both velocity and magnetic gradients are aligned perpendicular to the local direction of magnetic field and therefore can be used to trace magnetic field. Observationally this means that one should use Doppler broadened spectral lines to reveal velocity fluctuations and synchrotron intensities to study magnetic fluctuations. I will show the application of the techniques both to synthetic data obtained via 3D MHD simulations and to observational data. The new ways of tracing magnetic fields can provide answers to key questions of the star formation theory as well as be useful for removing the polarized galactic foregrounds. I will also discuss how to get the magnetic fluctuation spectra. |
