| Abstract: | Derived geometry can be defined as the `best' way to adjoin the solution sets of equations to a category of manifolds. I'll explain how this idea can be formalised using a universal property and extract some simple expected properties. Time permitting, I'll also discuss this universal property in the context of some more direct approaches to defining derived geometry. |
