I will review the Kontsevich formality theorem for Hochschild cochains and explain the relation to the deformation theory of the algebra of functions on a smooth manifold. The construction is based on a perturbative topological sigma model. I will discuss some recent developments, based on considering D-brane boundary conditions for this sigma model. Applications include quantization of hamiltonian reduction, modules and bimodules over quantized algebras, Koszul duality and the presentation of quantized algebras by generators and relations. |
