| Abstract: | I will show that in AdS/CFT, the area of the apparent horizon of a black hole is precisely the entropy associated to coarse-graining over its interior geometry, subject to fixing the spacetime outside of it. The entropy corresponds to the maximum holographic entropy compatible with the exterior of a black hole. This result gives the first thermodynamic explanation for a geometric area increase theorem in AdS/CFT. |
