Abstract: |
Discoveries of thousands of exoplanets have revolutionized astrophysics in the last couple of decades. They stimulated vigorous efforts to understand planet formation, which has grown into a rapidly developing field of science. In my talk I will provide an overview of the main ideas in planet formation, trying to focus on the details of the physical processes involved in planetary genesis. In the course of doing this, I will also try to provide connections between the physics involved in planet formation and the processes encountered in other field of astrophysics -cosmology, gravitational stability of disks (relevant for the formation of the first generation stars), inspirals of the binary supermassive black holes, and so on. |
