Recently, aspects of (quantum) gravity such as black hole physics, holography, and the manifestation of quantum gravity constraints within the framework of F-theory have gained interest. In this talk, I present how in compactifications of F-theory on Calabi-Yau threefolds classes of 4d and 5d black holes can be constructed. These black holes arise from D3-branes wrapped inside a Kaehler base of an elliptically fibered Calabi-Yau threefold. Microscopically, these black holes are described by 2d N=(0,4) SCFTs on the D3-brane in the IR. The macroscopic computation of central charges and levels of the SCFTs is outlined, and they are shown to agree with microscopic expectations from M-theory. A crucial ingredient to obtain the matching is the inclusion of certain one-loop Chern-Simons terms, generated by an infinite tower of states. This CFT data then determines the black hole entropy via Cardy's formula. |
