Abstract: |
The current lack of evidence for dark matter particles from colliders and underground experiments highlights the importance to extract as much information as possible from astrophysical observations. The center of our Galaxy is a well motivated target to search for the first non-gravitational signal of Dark Matter. However, the Galactic Center is a region notoriously difficult to model due its extreme environmental conditions and our limited knowledge of its main constituents. In this talk I will discuss our on-going efforts to unravel the so-called "Galactic Center Excess" discovered in Fermi-LAT data, focusing on recent developments on modeling the astrophysical backgrounds and their implications for competing hypotheses for the origin of this excess emission. |
