Abstract: |
In recent years the systematic development of the Standard Model as an effective field theory has undergone rapid developments as a theoretical framework. The key strength of this approach is that it defines a systematically improvable field theory to study deviations in the properties of the Standard Model (or lack thereof) considering the large and ever growing data set on the interactions of the SM states. This framework is surprisingly predictive for energies at and below the scale set by the vev of the Higgs field. To successfully study experimental data in this framework many practical tools need to be developed (one such tool is SMEFTsim). We report a recent global analysis combining LEP data and Higgs property measurements in this framework using this tool. In addition many impractical, but fascinating, questions need to be examined on the modification of standard ideas in QFT applied to the SM into the SMEFT framework. Such fascinating impracticalities include the interpretation and modification of the EOM, symmetry currents, theoretical errors, gauge fixing, and higher order loop corrections involving SMEFT operators. We discuss as many of these topics as time and interest allows. |
