Abstract: |
Long-lived massive particles (LLP) are predicted in many extensions of the Standard Model. In this talk I will describe several search methods used by CMS and ATLAS Collaborations. In contrast to the decay products ensuing from a fast moving particle which are collimated along the original direction of the parent, those from a slow moving LLPs are distributed over a wide region will give rise to striking signatures in the detectors at the LHC. I will demonstrate the usefulness of machine learning techniques by using a couple of physics examples from well motivated BSM scenarios predicting long-lived particles giving rise to displaced jets. |
