| Abstract: | The IceCube Neutrino Observatory at the South Pole has been fully operational since 2011. It consists of a square kilometer surface array, IceTop, above a cubic kilometer of ice instrumented with 5160 light sensors between 1.5 and 2.5 kilometers below the surface. It is a multi-purpose facility contributing to a wide-range of Astroparticle and Astrophysics topics. This presentation will describe how the observatory works, give an overview of some recent astrophysical neutrino results, and discuss the goals of the IceCube Upgrade project underway as well as preliminary plans for IceCube-Gen2. |
