Abstract: |
The Hubble Space Telescope offers a unique UV legacy, for which there is yet no planned successor. I present the results of deep-wide extragalactic HST imaging surveys, including the on-going UVCANDELS observations of four of the premiere HST survey fields. In particular, I present the results of surveys designed to measure or limit the value of the escape fraction of ionizing radiation from star-forming galaxies at z~1 and z~3. We have used HST and the GALEX archive to perform some of the the deepest searches to date. Although the Lyman continuum is not detected, we set strict limits on ionizing emissivity of the target sample. I will also discuss the broad range of other investigations enabled by HST UV imaging of distant galaxies, including studying the structural evolution of galaxies and probing the evolution of low-mass galaxies. |
