| Abstract: | I will discuss a number of approaches to understanding loop groups: Fourier series, Kac-Moody groups, p-adic groups, and, most recently, Coulomb branches of 3d gauge theories. In particular, I will discuss two approaches that have been fruitful for investigating double loop groups: p-adic Kac-Moody groups and Coulomb branches of affine type quiver gauge theories. My goal in the talk is to give a flavor of these ideas to a general scientific audience. I will briefly mention how my own work fits into the picture. |
