Abstract: |
Interactions between electromagnetic fields surrounding LHC protons provide a source of high energy photon collisions. Interestingly, since the protons themselves do not collide in such interactions we are able to detect the intact protons with forward detectors, recently installed by the ATLAS and CMS experiments. This provides access to novel kinematic information. For example, the full missing momentum four vector; a powerful observable for dark matter searches. In this seminar I will discuss a recent flagship photon collision result from ATLAS which utilises the forward proton detectors. I will also discuss exciting future prospects for using LHC photon collisions to search for dark matter particles and to surpass 15 year old lepton collider constraints on the tau anomalous magnetic moment. |
