The existence of non-trivial interacting quantum field theories in 6D spacetimes is one of the remarkable predictions of string theory. There is by now significant evidence that they exist, including a conjectural classification of supersymmetric conformal fixed points using the geometry of F-theory compactification. In this talk, we discuss some geometric aspects of such 6D fixed points, including the structure of 6D RG flows which retain supersymmetry. We also discuss the resulting effective field theory for conformal symmetry breaking, including a conjecture on the vanishing of certain higher derivative interaction terms in the associated dilaton effective field theory, a feature which does not occur in D = 4 CFTs. |
