Abstract: | The 2015 Nobel prize in Physics was awarded to Takaaki Kajita (from Super Kamiokande collaboration, Japan) and Arthur B. McDonald (from SNO collaboration, Canada) for the discovery of neutrino oscillations, which show that neutrino has mass. After this discovery, physicists are gaining an interest in the remaining questions in neutrino physics. Neutrinoless double beta decay (0nbb) is an excellent tool for determining the absolute neutrino mass and testing whether neutrino is a Majorana particle. The CAlcium fluoride for studies of Neutrino and Dark matters by Low Energy Spectrometer (CANDLES) experiment is a study of the 0nbb of 48Ca using a CaF2(undoped) scintillator as the detector and source. In this talk, I will discuss CANDLES and its low background approach to search for 0nbb of 48Ca. |
