Abstract: |
The origin of cosmic magnetism is unknown: are the observed magnetic fields in galaxies and clusters of galaxies the result of dynamo amplification of primordial seed fields generated before recombination? Or were the seed fields entirely produced by astrophysical processes within galaxies? Theoretical models predict that the low density cosmic web must retain, even nowadays, crucial memory of the origin of magnetic fields. In this talk I will present the recent and ongoing efforts to detect the signature of magnetic fields outside of galaxy clusters, in cosmic filaments and voids, with the goal of connecting any detected signals (or even non-detection) to the origin of cosmic magnetism, with the crucial support of advanced numerical simulations of the Universe. |
