Abstract: |
The standard cosmological model assumes that dark matter remains linear until well into the matter era. However, it could be the case that the primordial power spectrum on small scales is enhanced and nonlinear evolution begins much earlier. For a weakly interacting massive particle, the lightest Earth-mass halos can then form at higher redshifts, as can the first star forming halos. I will discuss the evolution of dark matter in this scenario, starting from decoupling in the very early Universe and then using cosmological simulations to understand halo formation in the nonlinear regime. |
