Abstract: |
Let G be a semisimple complex group. The set of special unipotent representations defined by Barbasch and Vogan is a distinguished set of unitary representations of G with certain good properties. Originally motivated by works of Arthur on automorphic representations, this set became an important topic for representation theorists. I will review what is known about the special unipotent representations, and provide an alternative way to study them. In the end I will sketch some of the benefits of this alternative way, and explain the general conjectural picture, and some new statements suggested by this picture. |
