We present a new framework for theories of Gravity, where the Lagrangian depends explicitly on the Action. This framework has three main features that make Action-dependent theories of Gravity especially interesting for Cosmology. First, it naturally generates terms in the field equations that cannot be replicated by any matter content. Second, the conservation of Noether currents is broken in a precise and controlled way. Third, from a geometric point of view, action-dependent Lagrangians are a natural and mathematically consistent generalization of standard Lagrangians. In this talk, I will show how to construct an Action-dependent theory in a gravitational setting, compute the field equations, and I will showcase their unique behavior. |
