Abstract: When higher-form symmetries are involved, classifying spaces are often used to establish the classification of 't Hooft anomalies and invertible phases. For 0-form symmetries, instead, it is more convenient to do the same thing with algebraic cochains (e.g. F-moves) and we obtain things like group cohomology. In this talk, I investigate the algebraic-cochain description for higher-form symmetries. When the higher-group structure is trivial, a purely algebraic structure that naturally generalizes group cohomology is observed. This extended group cohomology is a reflection of the Dold-Kan correspondence in simplicial homotopy theory.
