| Abstract: | String / M-theory on singular backgrounds engineers many interesting quantum field theories. These can be supersymmetric or not. We discuss how the symmetry data of such quantum field theories can be derived from such extra-dimensional constructions. This symmetry data is packaged into a filtration of topological field theories in various dimensions. This filtration of theories is computed from the extra-dimensional geometry by cutting and gluing constructions and using Chen-Ruan orbifold cohomology and orbifold index theory. |
