Abstract: |
Scalar condensation and its decay plays important roles in cosmology. A notable example is inflation and reheating driven by inflaton condensation and its decay. Three approaches can be found in literatures, to computing the decay (damping) rate of coherently oscillating scalar. One takes a naive time average of ``vacuum'' inflaton decay rate in the presence of background field. Another is based on the parametric resonance in a mode function of a daughter particle. The other computes the imaginary part of ``vacuum'' energy in the presence of background field. In this talk, we address a question whether these approaches give the same decay rate, and if so in which limit. |
