Abstract: Derived autoequivalences of varieties have really interesting applications relating to mirror symmetry, stability conditions and numerical invariants. In this talk, I will construct new derived symmetries induced by crepant contractions f: X ---> Y satisfying mild conditions and which admit a relative tilting bundle. These symmetries can be characterised as twists around spherical functors. A key technology we use is the noncommutative enhancement of crepant contractions introduced by Donovan and Wemyss. More specifically, there is a (mild) noncommutative scheme associated to the contraction f, and we specify "hidden smoothness" and "spherical" criteria which allow us to track the existence of new derived symmetries induced by the contraction.
