Despite its ubiquity, the halo model of large scale structure is famously inaccurate. I will argue that much of this inaccuracy is purely definitional, and that a more physically motivated definition of dark matter halos has the potential to result in a high-accuracy, first principles halo model framework that can be used to model non-linear matter and galaxy clustering in Stage IV surveys. I will further describe progress towards this goal. |
