A fundamental feature of the derived category of coherent sheaves is that it admits a bounded t-structure, which formalizes the fact that each of its objects can be built up via extensions and shifts from finitely many objects in the abelian category of coherent sheaves. I will explain an approach that allows one to construct a bounded t-structure on more general triangulated categories, including mysterious phantom categories. |
