Abstract: |
title: Part 1: Introduction to the Electroweak theory and Higgs mechanism Part 2: Introduction to (supersymmetric) Grand Unified Theory abstract: (Both Part 1 and Part 2 are given using the blackboard. Little or no background in particle physics is assumed.) It is expected that the Higgs particle, the last missing piece of the Standard Model of particle physics, will be discovered at the LHC in near future. In Part 1, I explain how the electromagnetic force and weak force are unified in the electroweak theory, where the Higgs field plays the central role. In Part 2, based on Part 1, I first briefly introduce the framework of the Standard Model of particle physics. I will then explain the basic idea of the Grand Unified Theory, and its interrelation with the supersymmetry. |
