Abstract: |
We discuss the expected properties of quark-gluon plasma and its relevance in astrophysical environments. Core-collapse supernovae and protoneutron stars may be favorable environments for the occurrence of the transition of normal matter to quark matter. We show that neutrino trapping changes the composition of hot nuclear matter, largely inhibiting the transition. Because of this reason, the formation of quark matter is more probable after partial deleptonization, few seconds after protoneutron star formation. If so, the formation of quark-gluon plasma should be detectable in the neutrino emission of future nearby supernovae. |
