Abstract: |
The discovery of a sizeable reactor mixing angle by Daya Bay and RENO has ruled out many flavour symmetry models, for example those based on discrete family symmetry that predicted tri-bimaximal mixing. We give an overview of model building strategies in the light of Daya Bay and RENO, and distinguish between direct and indirect implementations of discrete family symmetry. We show how certain classes of models can lead to testable mixing angle or neutrino mass sum rules. We discuss the strategy of combining Grand Unification with discrete family symmetry, in order to account for all quark and lepton masses and mixing angles and discuss a particular example of such a model based on Delta(96)xSU(5). |
