| Abstract: | A large fraction of galaxies in local Universe have ceased forming stars and appear to have been in such a quenched state for some time. There are many mechanisms that could be responsible for turning off star-formation and keeping it off, but it remains unclear which are significant. In this talk I will present some recent work searching for an association between the presence or absence of star-formation (via galaxy color) with a range of galaxy structural parameters such as stellar mass, stellar surface mass density, central velocity dispersion and profile shape. Such correlations provide insight into the physical mechanisms responsible for shutting down star-formation. I will also present clustering measurements that reveal how these galaxy structural parameters may be related to the properties of their host dark matter halos, giving insight into the role that the host halo may play in turning galaxies off. |
