Abstract: | The interpretation of neutrino oscillation data has led to the question whether, in principle, an antiparticle like antineutrino can have a different mass than its particle. We present an explicit Lagrangian model for the fermion and antifermion mass splitting in the framework of a Lorentz invariant CPT violation. This Lorentz invariant CPT violation, which is based on non-local interactions, is naturally incorporated in the Higgs coupling to neutrinos in the Standard Model, without spoiling the basic $SU(2)_{L}xU(1)$ gauge symmetry. The neutrino--antineutrino mass splitting is thus realized by the proposed mechanism, assuming the neutrino masses to be predominantly Dirac-type in the Standard Model. Some of the implications of the model and remaining theoretical issues are discussed. |
